TIMELINE - Ruby Project
August 2017
|
Paired this buck, Haku, to a black eye Siamese doe out of a black eye Siamese doe and Burmese buck from Happy Go Ratty. Litter produced 9 babies, a mix of black and red eyes. Held back 2 does, Sen and Chihiro, both black eye. They appeared normal Siamese until approximately 9 weeks of age when they developed very dark, very broad nose points. The self doe, Sen, had smaller but darker nose point with lighter body color. The variegated doe, Chihiro, had a lighter but broader nose point similar to her sires. Body remained darker than her sisters and similar in color to her sires as well.

Paired both daughters, Sen (self) and Chihiro (variegated) to their sire, Haku. Chihiro birthed 13 normal siamese, with a mix of black and red eye babies, self, variegated and some in between markings. Held all babies back longer but points never darkened like the first generation did. Held none back but adopted one black eye buck to a friend in case.
Sen produced only two babies, a Male and female, self and Whiteside respectively. Both were very dark, about the shade of a Burmese. Both had dark ruby eyes. They continued to remain dark, though lightening up a little with age. However, by about 4 months of age, they both melted into nearly normal siamese, though just a tad darker, with broad nose point and dark ruby eyes. Held both back. |

Paired Sen and Haku's babies, named Lyra and Orion, together. Litter produced 11 babies, 3 of which had ruby eyes. The others had red eyes. Out of the 3 ruby eyed babies, only one was comparably dark, though not as dark as her parents. The other 2 were slightly darker than a normal siamese but not comparable. All were female. Held back the darkest female named Cassiopeia (Cassie), and one normal male. Held others until 9 weeks but appeared to be no difference in appearance or points. Did not keep remaining babies.

Originally planned to pair Cassie to her brother, however, when attempting to pair him, he bit me and I decided not to continue with him and opted for an outcross.
OUTCROSS PAIRING - Paired to a nice self siamese dwarf named Kazuto. Produced 5 normal siamese offspring with normal red eyes and color. Held back a Male who grew to look like a normal red eye soamese. |

Lyra has been paired one final time to Bodhi, a black eye Siamese from Haku and Chihiro. 12 pups born, mix of black eye and red and/or ruby.
Gemini, a black eye male held back is exceptionally dark with dark, broad mask. Expected color to lighten with summer months, however, it has remained dark through to early July. Black eye gene has no doubt darkened the coat but there is real progress! |

Paired Jericho to Aries and Carina.
Aries suffered complications in pregnancy and passed away. Carina has proven infertile. |

OUTCROSS PAIRING - Paired Jericho to Rin, a black self from our marble line who carries Himalayan. 11 babies are Siamese. None show the characteristics I look for, but that is to be expected from an outcross. That said, they are turning out fairly well for normal red eye siamese.
Several babies are dwarf, which was an unfortunate outcome, however, there is a standard female who is very similar to Sen in that she is molting in a very dark, nearly black pattern. |

OUTCROSS PAIRING - Something interesting happened in an attempt at improving my tonkinese line via outcrossing to my marble line. Flashback to several generations ago, I paired a heterozygous tonkinese to Chihiro in an attempt to improve temperament. I then paired a daughter, Cherry, to Kazuto, an unrelated dwarf Siamese. Then paired a son, Mochi, to Nel, out of my marble line. I then paired 2 of their offspring together and produced some normal tonkinese and some russian blue and black babies. Not unusual. However, I also paired a second daughter to another unrelated siamese dwarf, Juzo, and got 5 babies who at first appeared to be very light tonkinese. They had ruby eyes, which is normal for tonkinese. But these babies were just way light for normal tonkinese. I have seen tonk similarly light that were albino based, but that was not genetically possible here. The older they get now, the more they resemble siamese, specifically, my ruby eyed siamese. There were no normal Tonk in this litter. There were the ruby eyed babies, a couple red eye siamese and some random black and russian blue babies.
The importance of this I am not quite sure yet. It is unlikely that the mama was tonk like i expected, and it appears that the ruby eyed gene passed down from Chihiro. Or it could be that there is a connection here that produces these dark siamese? I am not sure yet. More tests to come! |

Decided to begin Colony breeding in 2 groups, one group consists of Jericho/Rin offspring and Celeste/Chaos offspring.
Second group consists of the tonkinese/Juzo offspring and the Drake/Vega and Drake/Libra offspring. These will be chronicled on a new page. |

With such great results from the Bonnie Line Colony, it was decided to dissolve the original line as it has not produced the desired results. The Bonnie line has produced several offspring that have the darkness we have been striving for. We will however, continue with 2 colonies, since the dark babies produced appear to be agouti based, and we want to move that over to seal point. Once the dark babies from the Bonnie Colony are old enough to reproduce, we will pair them and hopefully will get some dark seal point babies to continue in a separate colony which will replace the Original Colony. This new colony will also be where we introduce the black eye gene, so that we can still keep maintaining the ruby eyed colony for the future as not to lose it.
