WELCOME!
Welcome to our website. We are a home based rattery focused on breeding quality pet rats for our community. Now that you're here, we'll assume you are interested in adding a couple rats to your family and we sincerely hope we can be of service to you. There are a few things we would like to cover first. Being a small, home based rattery, we do not mass produce and do not always have rats available at any given time. Each pairing is planned with the goal of improvement, and sometimes that means that we must wait to pair rats in order to ensure that it will result in the best improvement.
Being an independent hobby breeder, we also do things a bit differently, and have more requirements and expectations for our buyers than you would encounter when buying from a pet store. You will be expected to be educated on proper rat care, and agree to our terms and conditions before buying. Our prices are also higher than what you would typically spend at a pet store, due to the amount of time, effort and finances we put into our breeding program.
You may be considering if it is worth buying from a breeder and jumping through extra hoops and paying more. Maybe it would be easier to go to a pet store. After all, how different could it be?

Rats are our passion. We took on the challenging task of breeding rats because New England especially seems to have a lack of quality in the fancy. There are few breeders and few varieties and the general opinion of rats in this area is quite poor due to what is commonly available. Skittish rats with hormonal aggression seems to dominate people's opinions here. Being in a position to speak to many different people about rats and what they consider to be "normal," has been disheartening to say the least. This was the deciding factor for beginning the endeavor of starting a rattery to improve the common perception of rats, and to bring friendlier, healthier, longer lived rats to my area and we are ever improving.
Kaiza's Maineiac Mischief Rattery was founded in 2016. We started with just a few varieties, Marble and Silvermane, and slowly expanded to include Siamese and Marten, then Burmese and Dwarf, and later Tonkinese. We have a variety of colors produced, although generally we work with black, russian blue, american blue, and mink. Coat types we work with are standard and Harley, although we occasionally have Satin and velveteen or Rex although these are not our priority and therefore their conformation may be lacking. Almost all of our litters are Dumbo, although we do still occasionally have top ear available.

MARBLE/SPOTTED TABBY LINE
Our Marble line is our oldest, established in 2016. Their temperament and health are very sound and consistent to date. Where some marble lines are plagued by things like Malocclusion or small eye, we are happy to report those issues are not a problem in this line. Colors currently include black and russian blue but we may add other colors in the future. Our Marble line is dumbo eared and black eyed and we aim for standard coat. This variety comes in Dwarf.
D'ARGENT/SILVERMANE LINE
Our D'Argent line was started in 2016 and is also quite consistent in health and temperament. This line consists of Dumbo eared rats in Black, Russian Blue and American Mink, as well as Russian Dove (Russian Blue and American Mink combined). They come in an assortment of patterns, including self, variegated and eventually Whiteside. Coat types include standard, Velveteen and Double Velveteen. This variety may come in dwarf in the near future.
SIAMESE LINE
We consider Siamese one of our top specialties, although they have been temporarily halted as we figure out a peculiar question that has appeared in our lines. We are slowly getting back to a pet quality line, which will be predominantly black eye. This line is Dumbo eared, self and seal point. Coat types will include Standard primarily, with possible inclusion of velveteen and Harley down the line. This variety comes in Dwarf.
Our original Siamese line, starting in 2016, has developed into a bit of a project as we figure out what makes them appear differently than normal Siamese. You can follow our progress on our Ruby Eyes Siamese page.
